Prostate cancer – join Tamzin Outhwaite and her father talking about his prostate cancer journey.
Log on to our live and interactive WebTV show with Tamzin Outhwaite, where she will discuss how prostate cancer affected her family
Show date: Tuesday 11th June
Show time: 2:45pm
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Despite this, it is a disease which can often strike men ‘out of the blue’ due to a concerning lack of knowledge about the disease.
Tamzin Outhwaite will be joined on the sofa by her father Colin, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009; they are both backing Prostate Cancer UK’s drive to get more people talking about the disease.
Tamzin hopes that her involvement with the charity and her talking about the disease will encourage more people to do so and in turn increase awareness amongst men. Thankfully her father made a full recover but she knows only too well the importance for men to be aware of the life threatening disease.
Currently there are 250,000 men living with prostate cancer in the UK and it is the most common cancer in men. Prostate Cancer UK offers support to the one in eight men who will be diagnosed this year and are constantly fighting to help more men survive the disease and enjoy a better quality of life.
Drew Lindon, from Prostate Cancer UK, along with Tamzin and Colin are urging people to talk more about the disease and encourage you to submit any questions you may have about the disease. Log on to our live and interactive WebTV show for all you need to know about prostate cancer.

Does An Apple a Day Keep the Doctor Away? What are the health benefits of an apple?
When I was a boy many years ago, along with washing behind the ears, we were regularly reminded on the old adage “An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away”.
Apart from the now ubiquitous “five a day” or in Australia “seven a day” is there anything specifically about apples? Si if one is eaten per day does it enable the consumer to indulge in a bit of physician dodging.
To assist our readers PatientTalk.Org has conducted extensive research and has managed to ascertain the following useful information for our readers.
Perhaps most importantly according to The Stanford Cancer Center they may offer increased protection against certain kinds of cancers, in particular colon cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer. For more information please go to http://cancer.stanford.edu/information/nutritionAndCancer/reduceRisk/.
It has also been suggested that apples have antioxidant properties. To find out more about antioxidants please check out our blog https://patienttalk.org/?p=252.
Finally it is worth noting that apples are high in dietary fibre and are great source of Vitamin C.
So while it seems that they won’t prevent you from every spending quality time in a Doctor’s waiting room, they are a great part of your daily fruit and vegetable intake.
Do you know anything more about the adage “An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away”? If so we would love to hear what you know about it. Please feel free to tell us in the comments boxes below.
Thanks in advance
What are the health benefits of white tea?
As a healthcare blogger I get to see quite a bit of odd stuff. Recently I was sent some something which told me about the benefits of white tea. Now I admit I’d heard of white tea but at those prices had not been bothered to buy the stuff. But this week I decided on a whim to take the plunge and check out white tea.
I have to say the first thing I noticed is that the tea really does not seem to be white when it is in the cup. Have a look at the photo of the mug I just made. What do you think? Also please note how clear the desk of a healthcare blogger needs to be to keep up with all your informational needs.
However there are quite a few interesting claims made by fans of white tea which I thought I’d share with you:-
a) White tea can lower both blood pressure and cholesterol. This can reduce the risk of cardiovascular illnesses.
b) It acts as an antioxidant. For more information on antioxidants please have a look at our blog https://patienttalk.org/?p=252.
c) It has been suggested but this is not proven that there are anti-cancer properties in white tea.
d) Finally white tea does have antibacterial properties
And actually I’ve found it tastes very pleasant. So it is going to be part of my afternoons in future!
But the real point of this blog is to find out if you are a white tea drinker. If you are have you noticed any improvement in health since you started drinking it?
Feel free to use the comments box below to add your thoughts and opinions!
Thanks in advance
The Medical Benefits and Uses of Turmeric
The Medical Benefits and Uses of Turmeric
Not only does Turmeric taste great especially in South Asian food such as curries but it is
increasingly being recognised as a great addition to a healthy diet.
The use of turmeric as a medicine has been around for centuries in China and as part of the Indian Ayurveda medical system. Now everybody is taking notice.
Most excitingly according to UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center’s researchers it can help arrest the development of head and neck cancer. They say
“Curcumin, the main component in the spice turmeric, suppresses a cell signaling pathway that drives the growth of head and neck cancer, according to a pilot study using human saliva”
To read more about this amazing research please drop round to their web site at http://www.cancer.ucla.edu//Index.aspx?page=644&recordid=507.
But there are other conditions which can be helped as well.
Because of its anti-inflammatory effects it can be used as a treatment in arthritic conditions. It can also be used as a natural anti-septic.
It has been suggested that it is also a great way of promoting weight loss.
Finally it can be used as an antioxidant. To find out more about antioxidants please go to our page on the subject https://patienttalk.org/?p=252.
Have you ever used turmeric medicinally? If so why not use the comment boxes below to tell your story. What condition did you suffer from and how effective was turmeric? Would you recommend it to others?
Thanks for reading and sharing your stories about turmeric.
