British Pregnancy Advisory Service present a WebTV show on Emergency Contraception

Watch the live web TV show where Dr Patricia Lohr from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service’ gives the latest advice on emergency contraception choices available to women in 2014 and answers your questions on which one is right for you

Show date: Monday 17th March

Show time: 11.00 GMT

It’s not often we come up against taboo subjects and whilst contraception is a simple conversation for most women, there is still a huge amount of stigma surrounding emergency contraception.

According to new research, women in the UK are no more likely to have unprotected sex than women in France, Germany or Italy – but sadly they are more likely to find asking for emergency contraception embarrassing or shameful. Nearly half worry that seeking emergency contraception suggests they have been ‘irresponsible’ with their contraception, exacerbated by feelings of being ‘judged’ to ask for emergency contraception.

Are you worried that you’re not quite clued up on common misconceptions surrounding emergency contraception? Or are you like the majority of women in the UK that find requesting emergency contraception embarrassing or shameful, worrying that in doing so suggests you have been irresponsible with your contraception?

Furthermore, the stigma that continues to surround emergency contraception also allows myths to spread. Nearly half of women think emergency contraception may lead to infertility, and one in 10 is convinced this is the case.

Join our live webTV show where medical director of BPAS Patricia Lohr will run through all the questions about emergency contraception. We’ll cover everything from what different types there are, to where you can get it from, and debunk common myths surrounding emergency contraception such as that taking it can lead to infertility.

Dr. Patricia Lohr joins us live online at http://www.studiotalk.tv/show/end-the-stigma-around-emergency-contraception on 17th March at 11am.

Even today, many symptoms of the menopause remain taboo subjects, which leads to many women suffering in silence. In our live webTV show we’ll be talking about the menopause, its symptoms and how you can get help to treat them.

While many women take menopause in their stride, for many others it can be an isolating time and come completely out of the blue. Simply put, many women struggle with the thought that they will no longer be able to have children and are going through a natural phase of life that they feel is irreversible.

There are many symptoms commonly associated with menopause that women expect, such as hot flushes and night sweats, but there are many others of an intimate nature that are talked about less often. Vaginal health problems, such as vaginal dryness, painful intercourse and associated complications like incontinence, are perhaps less expected and women may not realise that they are caused by menopause and can be treated.

In this live and interactive health show, expert gynaecologist and founder of Menopause Matters, Dr Heather Currie, will discuss how to spot the symptoms and talk through the many treatments that are available. We also have Kathryn Colas joining us, who had a life-changing experience of menopause and has since re-invented herself as a women’s health ambassador focusing on raising awareness of menopause and how women can get through it.

In the show we’ll also be discussing the results of the CLOSER study, which gives a fascinating insight into the impact of menopause on the intimate lives of British women and their partners, as well as the psychological impact.

So whether you are someone suffering through menopause in silence, or know someone that is, join our live show and send in your questions to Dr Currie and Kathryn now.

Tamzin Outhwaite talks about prostate cancer

Tamzin Outhwaite talks about prostate cancer

Show date: Tuesday 11th June

Show time: 2:45pm

tamzin oProstate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Despite this, it is a disease which can often strike men ‘out of the blue’ due to a concerning lack of knowledge about the disease.

Tamzin Outhwaite will be joined on the sofa by her father Colin, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009; they are both backing Prostate Cancer UK’s drive to get more people talking about the disease.

Tamzin hopes that her involvement with the charity and her talking about the disease will encourage more people to do so and in turn increase awareness amongst men. Thankfully her father made a full recover but she knows only too well the importance for men to be aware of the life threatening disease.

Currently there are 250,000 men living with prostate cancer in the UK and it is the most common cancer in men. Prostate Cancer UK offers support to the one in eight men who will be diagnosed this year and are constantly fighting to help more men survive the disease and enjoy a better quality of life.

Drew Lindon, from Prostate Cancer UK, along with Tamzin and Colin are urging people to talk more about the disease and encourage you to submit any questions you may have about the disease. Log on to our live and interactive WebTV show for all you need to know about prostate cancer.
