Jacob Brache sat in the driver’s seat of a police cruiser and tried out its flashing lights. Next he shook hands with a bomb-sniffing police dog.

But at age 10 he doesn’t envision himself as a police officer. Jacob said he’d rather design spaceships or buildings in outer space.

His encounter with Omaha police on Sunday was still beneficial, because it was designed to help Jacob and others with autism become more comfortable with police, and to help officers better understand autism.

Omaha police and the Autism Action Partnership organized the event, which both sides hope in the first in a growing partnership.
