A mother-of-two being treated for multiple sclerosis has told how she “continually questioned” the care provided by Dr Michael Watt.

Deirdre Walford (47), from Ballymena, was one of 2,500 patients who yesterday learned they are being recalled to the Belfast trust for a review following a probe into the work of the consultant neurologist.

Ms Walford, who has not been assessed by Dr Watt or any other consultant for the past two years as she has been on a waiting list, is now questioning the original diagnosis she received – and the drugs she was prescribed.

Speaking to The Irish News last night, she said she had suffered “horrible, nasty side-effects” and her condition was deteriorating.

“I was absolutely unprepared for the letter that came through my door yesterday morning, it definitely floored me,” she said.
