As many of you may know there is a planned strike of junior doctors in the UK because of disputes over working hours in the NHS.  For a great overview of the issues in the UK and the root causes of the strike please check out this Metro article.

But it does prompt the question should doctors and nurses (and other healthcare providers) be allowed to take industrial action such as going on strike?

More Updated information – How should we address Nurses these days?

Miss? Is it still polite?

Miss? Is it still polite?

I like many of my readers have to see a nurse on a regular basis.

I few days ago mine changed faces. I’d been seeing my old one for years so it was a bit of a shock.

Anyhow as I did not know her name I addressed her as simply “Miss”. Miss is standard (in England) for female teachers by the way. And was for policewomen as well.

Her reaction ( and she did react) was that “these days” I wasn’t supposed to use the term Miss to address here but she said she didn’t mind it at all.

So I was intrigued how others think of this. So please do take our poll.

If you are a nurse please do tell us how you would like to be called in the comments section below! Also should I continue to call the lady “Miss”?

As most of us are aware today is the 73rd anniversary of the D Day Landings on Normandy’s beaches. Events which were vital in winning the war and securing our freedoms.

PatietTalk.Org would like to pay tribute to everyone who took part not just on that day but the days after. In particular we would like to highlight the role played by the the army, navy and airforce nurses of many different countries.

We would be very proud if you would like to use this blog to share any family memories of the D Day landings. Also if you have any pictures of any military nurses from your family we would be honored if you could post their pictures in the comments box so we can showcase their bravery.

Healthcare professionals! In general do you feel supported by the healthcare professionals around you?

Doctors, specialists, consultants, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, interns are among the many healthcare  professionals who support us through our medical and health journeys.

I’m the father of a child with autism so i can add to that speech and language therapists as well occupational therapist.  And I’m not even going to mention the highly skilled education providers he works with.  Teachers to the rest of us.

I have to say I’m pretty luck that we are very well supported in this area but with others this is not the case.  The number of medical malpractice suits attest to that.

So I thought I would give my readers there say.  Please could you use the poll below to add your voice.
