Parents of Children on the Autism Spectrum

Parents of Children on the Autism Spectrum

We have been asked to help Hannah Ward find parents of children on the autism spectrum to help her with some research.

She writes “My name is Hannah Ward and I am a postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University. I am conducting a study on “Support requirements of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder”. You are invited to participate. My supervisor is Dr Ruth Ford, email : ruth.ford@anglia.ac.uk

I am conducting this study to examine:- how you are currently feeling in terms of parenting a child with ASD, what your child particularly struggles with and what support you are receiving.

Data recorded in the course of this study will be analysed statistically with the aim of writing my postgraduate dissertation. If you wish to contact me for further information about the study, please do so via hannah.ward1@student.anglia.ac.uk. This research is not funded.

You have been invited to take part in this research to improve our understanding of what it is like to be a parent of a child with autism and the support such parents typically receive. There is no obligation to take part in this study. Should you choose not to take part in this study, there will be no penalty involved. If you decide to take part in this study and wish to withdraw, you are free to do so without prejudice, up until data analysis commences. If you choose to withdraw from the study, you can do so by handing the researcher the provided withdrawal slip, or contacting him/her via email noting your withdrawal. Note that you can also choose to withdraw by simply closing the webpage.

If you agree to take part in the study then you will be asked to fill out an online questionnaire. This questionnaire will ask about you and your ASD child including your child’s age and gender, how you’re currently feeling and the support that you receive. Your participation should take no longer than 30 minutes.”
