Are Daith piercings an effective treatment for migraines and anxiety?
If you had asked me this question 24 hours ago I would look at you in a dazed and confused fashion.
But the subject has been brought up twice yesterday in two of the Facebook pages we run. On one page Kim asked “Has anyone tried a daith piercing for migraines? Has it helped?”
It turns out that a Daith piercing is getting your ear pierced through the ear’s innermost cartilage fold also called the crus of the helix. You know the bobbly bit.
Anyhow it seems that some people are claiming it as a treatment for migraines. You can read an article which was posted on one of our pages here.
In fact you can see a picture of a Daith Piercing via the link.
Anyhow it does seem to me to be a bit of a far fetched claim. It also occurred on the best people to ask were you. You know the wisdom of crowds and all that!
So I’ve set up a quick poll to find out. so please feel free to take part even if you have not had the piercing.
If you would like to share your experiences of getting a Daith Piercing please feel free to use the comments section below.
I have a fresh daith piercing in my left ear and I am absolutely astounded at the decrease in pain. My migraines have shut me down before, had me I’m bed retching and bawling. Just over 24 hours old, and it’s already down to a 4/10
I honestly would never have tried this to help my migraines…except. my doctor was recommending daily medication as a preventative measure and I was struggling with using medication for this purpose. Even though my migraines truly did control my lifestyle.
I had it done January 4th as a last resort I had both of ears daith pierced.
This is what I will say…my migraines are caused by sinus issues and I have had a lot of sinus problems since I had my cartliages pierced, but what I tell everyone is “my head wants to get a headache but can’t!” I get all the classic sinus signs tender face, sore teeth, pressure, and then it all NOW stops at about my eyebrows. It is the strangest thing. It get a slightly foggy feeling…I think here comes the migraine. I prepare for it. And, nothing. Nothing happens.
I had an appointment with my physician a couple weeks ago and told him the alternative route I tried. I asked him if he thought it was the power of suggestion? His answer. ..”do you really care, …you are getting relief! ”
So, I am proud to say that as of today it has been 9 weeks without a migraine!
I did mine the 19th of February I went into the shop with a headache and left pain free and no migraines at all since , I’ve also noticed that my anxiety level has dropped tremendously and I couldn’t be happier.
If you suffer from migraines it’s worth trying.. it may not work for everyone..but worst case scenario you still have a classy looking piercing 🙂
I had an awful, super painful migraine for weeks before I got my daith pierced. In the first 12 hours, i noticed the intensity of my migraine decrease by at least 25%. Now, a week later, they’ve gone down by about 60%. It actually works!
