“If I have a child with autism, what is the risk my next child will as well?”

Autistic children are a pleasure, not a problem

Autistic children are a pleasure, not a problem

“Children are ten times more likely to be diagnosed with autism if they have a brother or sister with the developmental disorder, researchers at King’s College London found” according to London’s Daily Telegraph.

But is this really the case?

Well there does seem to be some evidence that two children in the same family can be diagnosed with autism but how common is it really?

In fact it was our second child who is on the autism spectrum so it was not a question which came up for us but it does for lots of other people.

So we thought it would be worth taking a poll of our readers to see how many siblings/children diagnosed with ASD.

Many thanks in advance and feel free to use the comment box below to share you thoughts and stories with our readers!

  1. I’d worry more about the fact that this person is calling it a “risk” instead of just a “chance” that a subsequent child will have autism…
