Autism and Education Part 5 – How the Clarendon Foundation helps children on the autism spectrum – a guest post!

Clarendon LearningClarendon Foundation is a non-profit company who supports the education and growth of the youth of America.  We provide high quality educational content, on our website www.clarendonlearning.org, for students, parents and teachers.  Our curriculum is vast and growing and has done much to benefit the educational environment.

One curriculum that we especially care about and value is our 6-course curriculum for teachers in helping them teach autistic students on the spectrum.  Teaching students with autism means teachers need to learn appropriate strategies for autism and our course will help!

Consulting with industry professionals we have developed a 6-part curriculum that helps include and strengthen autistic children in the classroom.  Each group is has specific strategies and activities that are informative and fun.

What you will learn:

  • Group 1: Communication Skills – Students will learn the importance of communicating with others and understand how verbal and listening skills are required when communicating
  • Group 2: Judging By Appearances – Students will learn the importance of not judging others by appearances and will understand the limiting effects of initial judgments.
  • Group 3: Healthy Relationships – Students will learn what makes a relationship healthy or unhealthy, and will practice identifying the difference between a healthy or unhealthy relationship.

  • Group 4: Being Open to New Friendships – Students will learn the importance of initiating friendships and will practice remembering information about others and will practice opening themselves up to ideas from other people.
  • Group 5: Self-Esteem – Students will learn about self-esteem and the importance of self-talk.
  • Group 6: Team Building – Students will think about their preferences on leading, following, and working alone. They will also work together as a team to accomplish an important goal within a game.

We at the Clarendon Foundation care about autistic students and making sure that the education they receive is strengthened and the most beneficial.  Help us in our cause to further the educational content that is readily available to our students, teachers, and parents.
