Autism blogging – where have all the autism blogs gone?

Autism Awareness

Autism Awareness

Yes I know it does sound a bit odd that a blog run by the father of an autistic 6 year old should want to write about autism blogging. In fact it comes over as pretty self-indulgent.  So please bear with me.

A couple of days ago I asked on the Facebook page which we run on Autism and ASD (https://www.facebook.com/AutismTalk) a question regarding our readers favourite autism blogs.  Do you know what? Only one person had a blog to recommend.  Someone pointed to the brilliant Facebook page  “Autism with a glass of wine“ (https://www.facebook.com/AutismWithAGlassOfWine). If you had not already liked and shared the page we strongly recommend you do so.

Now this really did surprise me.  Because back in 2009 when our son was being diagnosed I read autism related blogs daily.  I discovered from these blogs that progress could be made and that other people were in the same boat as me. This helped me cope with a very stressful process.

As life moved on I started using Facebook more and then started my own  blog so I took my eye off other autism blogs.  So today I’d like to change that and promote a few of the blogs I’ve found useful over the years.

Please do visit all of these blogs.   They’re all different and all terrific.

Of course this does not cover all the blogs out there. If you have a blog (or would like to recommend somebody else’s blog) please use the comments box below to add a link and a brief description.

Thanks in advance

PS  We are hoping to make this sort of post a regular feature of the site so keep those autism blogs coming!

  3. hi,have also noticed the downtrend in autistic blogs and noticed many big names disappear or make their blogs private.perhaps social networking sites like facebook and twitter has something to do with this or just that people are going through a phase of becoming fed up with their online use taking over everything else.

am severely autistic and learning [intelectualy] disabled and have ran a blog for many years, because am communication impaired and unable to freely discuss thoughts the blog is used as a mental archive and a release for anything that has been building up,but its main purpose is to show what life is like as an autist in institutional/residential care, several UK social services learning disability teams have used the blog as teaching for staff.
havent been able to post a lot for a while due to being sectioned in a UK learning disability A&T hospital for the past four months but had got out last week into a new placement and have got hold of a ‘three’ dongle.

  4. Thanks for allowing me to share!  I run a project called Dear Autism Mama: Letter’s of Compassion, Hope & Joy.  It’s a collaborative effort by mothers of children on the spectrum all over the world, submitting letters to fellow autism mom’s providing hope during those dark times. I’m currently collecting the first group of letters to post on the site.
    The website is http://www.DearAutismMama.com
Please check it out and support this very important project.  And the project is not limited to mothers.  All caregivers are encouraged to participate and share!  If you have questions, my contact info is on the website.  Thanks again!

  5. Hello,
My name is Laura and I’ve kept a blog on my own journey on the autism spectrum since 2006. I post less now as a graduate student, but still post a couple times a month when able. I have written about everything from my own life experiences as a university student on the spectrum to suggestions for raising children with autism.
