ZeroWater – a new way to filter water – and it’s really rather good!

Okay full disclosure.  Firstly I live in London where the water is so hard it gets into fights.  Second I’m passionate about my morning coffee.  So what have they got to do with each other I hear you cry!  Well, dear reader, the answer is simple.

My coffee machine needs soft water to ensure that it does not get clogged up with lime scale within a few months.  So we have to use filtered water for our bean to cup machine.   So far so obvious!

The problem is that most water filtering jugs have reservoirs which are far too small for the amount of water needed to fill even our coffee machine.  Let alone the rest of the needs of a family of four.  So the first win with a ZeroWater jug is that it has the reservoir size to actually be able to meet the water usage our family rather than having to constantly  fill our old filter jug.

Secondly unlike other jugs we have used in the past it is very robust so it would have to be replaced every few months as we have often had to do in the past.

While the filter itself is not cheap (around £12 from some providers) it does have the advantage of lasting a long time and being very effective.

How do I know this?

Well the review was supposed to be finished a few months back but I got involved with work, kids the summer…………you know the kind of thing.  The filter however got on with it and carried on filtering.  I’m only going to need to change the filter now. (You can get them from Amazon here.)

Which leads me on to how do we know it is time to change the filter?  Well the ZeroWater filter comes with a rather funky instrument which tells you how many particles there are in your water.  In some case the get 0000 TDS (total dissolved solids).  We got 0006 TDS.  So pretty impressive.  And very clean water.

There is a load of technical guff about how it works but I’m not going to bore you with that.  The point is that is does work and it works well over a long period of time.  They claim they can even filter red wine.  My daughter was keen to see how this worked but I was less enthusiastic for obvious reasons.

She gave it the final verdict when after drinking a glass of the fresh water announced that as a Londoner this utterly unacceptable for her to drink because of the lack of chemicals.  All going to prove that water filtration is wasted on the young.

If you want to get your hands on one Amazon seems to be the best place to go to.  Check out this link.

Enjoy (The end of lime scale).
