Unlocking Romance: UCLA Launches Dating Program for Autistic Adults

Participants Needed for Free 20-Week Study

UCLA Health has started a new 20-week program called PEERS for Dating. This program is designed to help autistic adults navigate the complexities of romantic relationships. The goal is to help participants build and sustain meaningful connections through practical advice and support.

The program, led by the PEERS Clinic at UCLA, offers practical dating strategies. Participants will learn skills such as:

  • Choosing suitable people to date
  • Using online dating etiquette
  • Developing conversational skills
  • Expressing interest in someone
  • Asking someone on a date
  • Going on dates
  • Handling dating pressure and rejection
  • Understanding dating do’s and don’ts

In addition to group sessions, trained dating coaches will provide personal support, helping participants apply what they learn in real-life situations.

About PEERS

PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) is a well-known social skills program developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson. It focuses on helping individuals from preschool to adulthood improve their social skills, including dating and employment. The program has been taught in over 150 countries and was featured in the TV series “Love on the Spectrum Australia.”

The PEERS for Dating program is based on extensive research and aims to address the unique experiences of autistic individuals in dating. It provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed for successful romantic relationships.
