Teaching Independence to Children with Autism Presented 1/26/ 2018 by Kim Howard, M.Ed., KATC Field Trainer
What is Independence for children with autism & how do we achieve that?
We know that Independence for students & children with autism can look like very different things from person to person. We also know that to have independence of any level as an adult does not happen by accident. It takes careful planning on the part of parents & school teams to help students achieve independence. Planning for Independence should start for a child as a toddler & will continue into adulthood but it’s never too late to begin the journey for independence.
