AutiPlan – Visual Schedules

Welcome to the latest in our series of guest posts aimed at the autism community.  Today Iris Egtberts of AutiPlan tells us about their Visual Schedules.  Please use the comment box to ask Egtberts  any questions you may have!

She writes “As you might know, people with Autism, ADHD or an intellectual disability often need help with structure and predictability. Visual schedules can help by providing activities using text and images, thus reducing stress and supporting independence!

With the help of AutiPlan, you can easily make clear visual day schedules using a collection of over 11.000 ready-to-go pictograms. You can even use your own photos and images to make tasks and activities more recognizable.

The Visual Schedules can be printed or synchronized to a phone or (iPad) tablet! The AutiPlan app uses timers, speech and alarms to help keep focus and make sure no tasks are forgotten or skipped.

Watch our video to see how it works:

Visual schedules created with AutiPlan are already used successfully by hundreds of families and organisations. Learn more on www.autiplan.com and get started for free!”

Autism Awareness Month 2014 – pass it on

With World Autism Awareness Day just gone I thought I thought it would be a useful reminder that April is also Autism Awareness Month.

That being said everyday should be autism acceptance day.

Anyhow as a reminder we have made another graphic to promote the month and asd awareness.

So please pass it on!

World Autism Awareness Day 2014 – Thanks for supporting #WAAD

I thought I would say thanks.

Erm, that’s it really.

For many of us in the autism community yesterday was, I feel, a massive boost in getting autism acceptance (and not just autism awareness) on the global map.

Just have a look at the posting on our Facebook Page AutismTalk (https://www.facebook.com/AutismTalk) to get a feel of the power being unleashed –

So we have made a card to show our appreciation – feel free to use it to keep getting the message out!

World Autism Awareness Day – What are you hopes and fears for the future of autism awareness?

Autism Awareness Day 2014

Autism Awareness Day 2014

Today as the whole world seems to know is World Autism Awareness Day.  (It does seem amazing how social media has transformed autism awareness or is it just me?)

While thing about the day over breakfast I was pondering where after awareness and acceptance?  With the latest figures of 1 in 68 being diagnosed with ASD this is going to become a pretty important question.

Remembering that I had spent two decades in the world of survey research I realised that the best people to answer this question is you.

So in this blog I would like to ask a very simple question what are you hopes and fears for the future of autism awareness?

It would be great if you could share your thoughts in the comments box below.

Thanks for caring!

World Autism Day 2014 – What have you got planned? Share your ideas and links at our post!

World Autism Awareness Day

World Autism Awareness Day

This does look like a big one.  The interest in World Autism Day seems to me at least to be overwhelming.  I really think tomorrow could make a difference for the 1 in 68 who have been diagnosed with ASD.

Loads of different events are being planned across the planet and the aim of this blog post is to help people find out about them.  Please use the comments box below to share any information you have about any events you may be involved in.

To start the ball rolling my son’s school is have a crazy socks day to raise money for the National Autistic Society.  Each child in the school has been invited to wear the most outlandish pair of socks they own to school for the day.    The school has both neurotypical and ASD students so it is a great way of helping other children understand autism,  For some background to the school please have a look at https://patienttalk.org/autism-and-education-part-two-compromise-or-half-way-house-our-autistic-sons-educational-journey-explained/.

We have also made an awareness raising picture for the day.  You can download it here https://patienttalk.org/world-autism-awareness-day-2014-please-like-and-show-your-support-for-the-day/.  Please share with everyone you know.

Many thanks in advance.
