Autistic Adult Perspectives on ABA and Son-Rise – please help

University of Strathclyde

University of Strathclyde

Introduction: My name is Owen McGill, I am a Masters in Autism postgraduate student at the University of Strathclyde under academic supervision of Chief Investigator Dr Anna Robinson. I am conducting a study on the reflective accounts of autistic adults who have undergone an Intensive Individualised Intervention (III) in childhood. I am interested in the experiences of certain interventions such as Applied Behavioural Analysis and Son-rise from the perspective of individuals with autism who have undergone these methods.

What is the purpose of this investigation? The research study seeks to understand experiences of Intensive Individualised Intervention, through an exploration of the reflective accounts of autistic adults who have undergone an early III, such as Applied Behavioural Analysis or Son-Rise. This study will seek to conceptualise these reflections against research outcomes to fully understand any similarities and differences between the evidence-based literature and autistic accounts as recipients of these methods.

Do you have to take part? Participation is entirely voluntary, as you do not have to take part. If you begin the process and wish to withdraw you are free to at any point and any data collected will not be used in the study. All data collected will be kept safely and only data submitted will be used for analysis.

What will you do in the project? You will opt for either or both an online questionnaire, which should take no longer than 40 minutes or an interview via Skype for up to 45 minutes. The questions will ask your personal reflections of the Intensive Individualised Interventions.

The University of Texas at San Antonio – Autism Study

A few months ago Shanna McConnell, a postgraduate student at the University of Texas in San Antonio, asked us to help her find respondents for a survey about ABA. Yesterday she got in touch asking us to help her find parents of children on the autism spectrum for a new survey on applied behavior analysis.

McConnell wrote “Parents of children on the autism spectrum- we need your input. We are researching how parents feel about applied behavior analysis (ABA). How do you view ABA?

What’s your opinion on and experience with ABA?

If you are a parent or guardian of a child diagnosed with autism, we invite you to participate in our brief online survey. Please tell us what you think.

It takes most parents 5-8 minutes to complete the survey. Here is the link to the online survey:

Parents of children on the Autism Spectrum please help with some research into ABA

A few days ago we were contacted by Shanna McConnell, a M.S. candidate, at University of Texas at San Antonio. Ms McConnell is currently undertaking research with parents of children on the autism spectrum views on applied behavior analysis (ABA). For more information on ABA please have a link at our recent blog post here.

McConnell writes “A little bit about our study: there is research about how the general public views ABA, but there is not much out there about how parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder view ABA. We are interested in gathering information about parents’ experience with and opinions on ABA. We would like to compare to see if they have a different perception than the general public. ”

It has taken most parents 5-8 minutes to complete. Here is the link to Shanna’s online survey: http://svy.mk/1VRYBZx
