Did you know that only 15% of autistic people are employed? That is a scary number, and I have been on both sides. In today’s video, I wanted to talk about some struggles I have faced and shed light on what it is like trying to find and hold down a job as an autistic person.

5 Overlooked Signs of Autism – from a Late-Diagnosed Autistic
What are the overlooked signs of autism that might lead to autistic people being undiagnosed? Is this why so many autistics (like myself) get diagnosed late in life? In this video, I dive into easy-to-overlook signs of autism from the unique perspective of an autistic adult with ADHD who also happens to be an educator. From social challenges (but not necessarily being “awkward”) to extreme exhaustion and the need for alone time, I’ll discuss things that I’ve learned and adjustments I’ve made since my autism diagnosis in the hopes that it might be able to spark ideas for others on what could improve their personal or work life after learning they are autistic. Even without a diagnosis, this can help you better understand the inner workings of autism.

The double empathy problem suggests that both autistic and allistic communication styles are valid. When used with someone of the same neurotype, both yield high accuracy rates. The challenge is when one neurotype (typically autistic) attempts to communicate consistently with another neurotype (typically allistic). This is when misunderstandings occur. In this video, I discuss autistic and allistic communication differences related to double empathy.
