Are nurses paid enough? What do you think?

After having returned from my Christmas break I spent the day washing clothes and reading through my emails. So far so normal.

But while reading the UK’s Nursing Times something struck me. Not the very interesting content on the social model of disability. You can read the pdf here.

If however you go to the web site, however, you will see a lot of adverts for very senior nurses and next to them the salary details. In one case I saw a salary of £21,000 per annum which equates to about $30,000. This for a role which had pretty similar responsibilities for a family doctor and a not dissimilar education. The doctor’s salary would be over five times the amount for , many think, much less work and stress.

So are nurses paid enough? What do you think?

I’d say no they are not but it would be great if you could share your views in the comments section below.

Thanks very much in advance!

  1. No, certainly not. Neither are they to blame for the mess that the NHS has become. They do an incredible job and, as with the other emergency services (and teaching) gain an incredible amount of criticism/abuse.

  2. NO!  Neither are police or firefighters.  I definitely don’t get paid enough to deal with the kind of crap (literally) that comes along with some patients. “Oh but if you really loved your job…” Yeah, no lol.  They should get paid more – especially when they’re the primary person keeping an eye on you in the hospital.
