At the doctor’s office – doctor and patient

As some of our regular readers will know we are running some rolling research into global perceptions on healthcare provision. This is being done by using a series of online polls ( as opposed to surveys) of which this is the second one.

Our overall objective is to find out how users of healthcare think healthcare can be improved.

So what will we do with this research? Well apart from giving you a voice we plan to put together a report which gives the suggestions of our readers as to how best to reform global healthcare.

Which means that anything you wish to share both in the polls but also in the comments section will be very useful to us.

I have to say the results of the first poll were eye-opening. We asked our readers if they thought that that the Doctors acted as they they were lying to them. You can check out the startling and shocking results here.

Thanks very much in advance for your help with the research!

Do your Doctors believe you?

Do your Doctors believe you?

Until I started working in medical market research a decade ago I had a generally positive view of the healthcare world.

Sadly closer contact has made me rather cynical about the quality of the healthcare provision we are receiving , especially here in the UK, for our hard earned money.

One reason for my loss of confidence was conducting research with people with fibromyalgia. Many of the reported to us that there contact with doctors had been a harrowing and humiliating experience. Some of them were told that fibromyalgia was ” a made up condition” and that they were lying about their symptoms.

I have had similar (though nowhere near as bad) experiences when having my hearing tested. One audiologist could not see a problem with me and acted as though I was wasting his time. Ignoring that fact that my hearing was , and is , deteriorating.

So I am wondering how much this applies to my readers in general.

I have set up a poll below asking the very simple question “Have you had the impression that your doctor thinks you are lying about your symptoms or medical condition?”

Please do take part and share with anyone you think might be interested in taking part.

Do use the comments section to add any thoughts you may have or share your story with our readers.

Thanks very much in advance.

When did you last visit your family Doctor? Please take our poll!

When was the last time you visited your GP? (MD or family doctor).

I ask because in the last few years it has become harder and harder to get an appointment with a doctor here in the UK.

So I was wondering about not just the UK but other countries as well.

If you would like to comment about getting medical appointments it would be great if you could use the comments section below. Also any ideas as to how healthcare provision could be improved would be great!

Thanks very much in advance.

Does the future of the NHS have an impact of the way you will vote in the forthcoming UK general election? Please take our poll.

National Health Service

National Health Service

As pretty much anyone in the UK know right now on Thursday we go to the polls to elect a new government (or not) here in the United Kingdom.

It has been been , for long term political observers, a rather odd campaign in terms of political issues. But there have been a couple of stand outs – one, of which, is the issue of healthcare.

As US readers may know healthcare, in the UK, is mainly provided free at the point of use to those who need it. That being said the National Health Service will be 70 in a couple of years time and it would be naive to suggest that it is not “creaking” a bit.

So the purpose of this blog is to find out if you consider the future of the NHS to be important in how you decide to cast your vote. To do this we have set up a poll below and it would be great if you would take part. Secondly and, maybe, it would be great if you could share your ideas as to how healthcare in the UK might be improved. Please use the comments section below to share your ideas!

Feel free to vote and comment below even if you a not eligible to vote in the UK. Why? Because everyone’s opinion is useful in charting a course for healthcare in the future. And we can learn for the experiences of other countries when it comes to healthcare reform. I mean – has Obamacare really worked in the US?

Should the Government be the main provider of healthcare?

State Healthcare?

State Healthcare?

As many of you will know there is a general election coming up in the UK in a couple of months. The National Health Service is one of the major issues of the campaign. Though for the life of me I can’t see the difference between any of the parties. None of them seem to have any clear idea of delivering health.

In the US healthcare reform has been a major issue. Just look at Obamacare.

So I found myself wondering if government really was the best agency to be providing (or even involved) in healthcare?

What do you think?

Please feel free to take part in our poll below. It would be great if you could use the comments section below to expand on your thoughts!

Thanks in advance!
